{"id":13520,"date":"2021-02-04T19:16:27","date_gmt":"2021-02-04T18:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.statigeneralinnovazione.it\/?p=13520"},"modified":"2021-02-04T19:16:27","modified_gmt":"2021-02-04T18:16:27","slug":"linternet-of-everything-del-6g","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.statigeneralinnovazione.it\/en\/linternet-of-everything-del-6g\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201c6G internet of (every)thing\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><strong>\u201c<em>The mass market of 5G will realistically be reached in 2022-2024, and despite its currently patchy rollout, there are already those in Europe, Asia and North America working on 6G technology\u2026<\/em>\u201d. <\/strong><strong>In the article &quot;The internet of (every)thing of 6G&quot;, published on 4 February 2021 in Il Sole 24 Ore and signed by the President of the General States of Innovation Fulvio Ananasso, we find an interesting and in-depth analysis of current developments in technology 5G and the future horizons that we already glimpse with 6G. \u201c<em>The 6G \u201cvision\u201d in 2030 is a data-driven, artificial intelligence (AI) and cognitive computing-enabled society with near-instantaneous wireless connectivity.<\/em>\u201d.<\/strong><\/h6>\n<h6><strong>Read the full article below:<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Unlike other mobile generations, 5G not only replaces the previous generation (4G), but uses fixed-mobile convergence to <strong>\u201corchestrate\u201d the entire network <\/strong>(<em>end to end<\/em>), through <strong>network-independent services<\/strong> based on small radio cells, &quot;softwarization&quot;<em>\u2013 software-defined networking <\/em>(SDN) \/ <em>network functions virtualization <\/em>(NFV) \u2013 and low latency (<em>edge computing<\/em>). The &quot;network slicing&quot; allows the management of 5G requirements on the same infrastructure <em>end to end<\/em> of different applications, realizing various <strong>logical \/ virtual networks <\/strong><strong>independent<\/strong> as if they had each <strong>a dedicated physical network. <\/strong>This allows you to handle applications with different requirements, such as (<strong>i) mobile broadband <\/strong>at high speed (<strong>10Gbps<\/strong>), <strong>(ii)ultra-reliable communications<\/strong> low latency (<em>goal <\/em><strong>1 msec<\/strong>) for production control, remote surgery, <em>smartgrids,<\/em> transport, \u2026 i.e <strong>(iii) massive communications <em>machine to machine<\/em><\/strong> (M2M), with many devices with low cost, consumption and volume of data \u2014 (<em>narrow band) internet of things<\/em> (nB-IoT).<\/p>\n<p>The auction on 5G spectral resources has gone further <strong>6.5 billion euros <\/strong>into the State coffers, with the assignment of rights of use on 3 frequency bands: <strong>694\u00f7790 MHz<\/strong>, <strong>3.6\u00f73.8GHz<\/strong>And <strong>26.5\u00f727.5GHz<\/strong>. The high frequencies imply the <strong>densification of radio cells<\/strong> of small dimensions \u2013 order of km in the case of 700 MHz, microcells of hundreds of meters at 3.7 GHz and pico \/ femtocells of tens of meters at 27 GHz -, with high rates of <strong>reuse of frequencies, speed<\/strong> And<strong> density<\/strong> of users \u2014 up to <strong>1 million\/km<sup>2<\/sup><\/strong>. The number of cells will therefore grow considerably, with all the problems connected to the (almost unfounded) fears of the population and site owners concerned by the <strong>electromagnetic emissions<\/strong> due to the proliferation of antennas<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Given the advantages offered by 5G, you will have to find ways to efficiently manage one <strong>huge amount of connected devices<\/strong> and the data traffic generated by them. Think of the 25 GB of data exchanged every hour by a single connected self-driving car. When fully operational, robust advanced management protocols will therefore be required (AI-<em>driven<\/em>) of traffic flows, otherwise the 5G network will no longer be able to bear the load. Therefore, despite the currently patchy launch of 5G \u2013 the mass market will realistically be reached in 2022\u00f72024, with China dominating technologies, distribution and number of connections \u2013 there are already those working on <strong>6G technology<\/strong> in Asia, USA and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>There <em>vision<\/em> of 6G to 2030 is one <strong>data-driven society<\/strong>, a world intrinsically enabled for<strong>artificial intelligence (AI)<\/strong>, with a connectivity <em>wireless <\/em><strong>almost instantaneous<\/strong><strong>, very high fast<\/strong><strong>transmission ty<\/strong> data and user density. <em>Smartphones<\/em>, suits and other wearables based on <em>cloud <\/em>will be AI-enabled, with \u201cpersonal projection interfaces\u201d able to monitor and exchange vital signs, enabling new immersive\/predictive services based on <em>cognitive computing<\/em>, sensors <em>wearable \/ body-embedded, <\/em>etc. Both humans and machines will be users of 6G, characterized by the provision of advanced services <strong><em>extended reality<\/em><\/strong> (XR) immersive, <strong>moving holograms<\/strong> high fidelity and <strong>digital replicas<\/strong> (<em>digital twin<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Cisco provides in this regard extremely accurate geo-locations, of the order of <strong>10cm <\/strong><em>indoors<\/em> And <strong>one metre <\/strong><em>outdoors<\/em>. You will be able to serve a <strong>hundred communicating objects per m<sup>3<\/sup><\/strong>, given that in the future, humans will no longer be the only ones to communicate through their own <em>device<\/em>, but also objects connected to the network \u2014 with us and with each other. it is the<em>internet of (every) thing<\/em>, which connects things, people, data and processes.<\/p>\n<p>China put a satellite into orbit last November to test transmissions at frequencies of TeraHertz (thousands of GHz), functional to the very high speeds envisaged by 6G. South Korea, pioneer of commercial 5G (2018), expects the rollout of 6G networks within the present decade \u2013 following the custom of one <strong>new generation every ten years<\/strong> about. There will be a massive use of <em>deep learning \/ cognitive computing <\/em>for the development of strategic verticals \u2013 digital healthcare, self-driving cars, smart cities and factories.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/global\/samsungs-6g-white-paper-lays-out-the-companys-vision-for-the-next-generation-of-communications-technology\">Samsung<\/a> has set speed targets of <strong>1,000Gbps (<\/strong>1 Terabit\/sec) with latency less than <strong>0.1 msec <\/strong>(against 1 msec of 5G), up to <strong>10 million users per km<sup>2 <\/sup><\/strong>and three categories of requirements to be met: high <strong>performance, architectures<\/strong> sustainable and <strong>reliability \/ safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the US, the major telecom players in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atis.org\/\">ATIS extension<\/a> (<em>Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions<\/em>) launched last October the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nextgalliance.org\/\"><strong>Next G Alliance<\/strong><\/a>\u201d (\u201c<em>Building the foundation for North American leadership in 6G and beyond<\/em>&quot;), for the standardization, technical specifications, components and commissioning of the equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union also aims to be a <em>player<\/em> global, and launched the project on January 1st <a href=\"https:\/\/hexa-x.eu\/\"><strong>Hexa-X<\/strong><\/a> (Horizon 2020) to define the <em>Road map<\/em> and future developments of 6G technology with major operators and infrastructure providers \u2013 Ericsson, Nokia, Orange, Telefonica, etc. \u201c<em>The Hexa-X vision is to connect human, physical, and digital worlds with a fabric of 6G key enablers<\/em>\u201d. 6G networks will be equipped with advanced &quot;predictive&quot; intelligence systems, in a scenario of traffic explosion, number of connected objects and sustainability of energy consumption (<em>data centers<\/em>, towers, \u2026).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIl mercato di massa del 5G sar\u00e0 realisticamente raggiunto nel 2022-2024, e nonostante il suo lancio al momento a macchia di leopardo, c\u2019\u00e8 gi\u00e0 chi in Europa, Asia e Nord America lavora alla tecnologia 6G&#8230;\u201d.
