On Thursday November 15th we had the opportunity to participate in 2018 GUIDELINES<\/a><\/strong>, the Exhibition of Schools, Training, Orientation and Work, which has been held in Genoa every year since 1996. Incidentally: as reported by the organizers, this year the initiative totaled 91,000 visits.<\/p>\n

It was an opportunity to make a brief speech on the subject of Geospatial Revolution<\/strong>, in the context of the meeting "How digital transforms our lives and our work<\/strong><\/em>\u201d, edited by\u00a0diGenova \u2013 Urban Digital Transformation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

of Genoa <\/strong>is a plan promoted by the Municipality of Genoa which involves volunteers from \"\"by businesses and civil society. The initiative intends to expand the educational and training offer with a stimulating approach, to capture the attention of young people and create an effective system to make Genoa a digital city not only as a technological offer, but as culture, philosophy of life, work and revitalization of the territory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The "Piedmontese" section - but by now we can say "North-West" - of our association is following the development of of Genoa<\/strong> since the early stages (June 2018). We aim to deal with issues concerning thegeographical information<\/strong>, taking advantage of the experience we are acquiring also thanks to the collaboration with the \u201cG. Penna\u201d of Asti and \u201cVittorio Emanuele II \u2013 Ruffini\u201d of Genoa, our partners.<\/p>\n

The setting that we intend to propose also in the ambit of Genoa<\/strong> can be referred to vision<\/em> which we have illustrated in first article<\/a> of the monthly column on the Geospatial Revolution, edited by Monica Sebillo, Fulvio Ananasso and by the writer of the magazine online<\/em> TechEconomy<\/a> (the links<\/em> to all published contributions are available at the bottom of This Page<\/a>, updated monthly).<\/p>\n

The slides\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>get ready<\/a> to draw attention to the digital geography<\/em><\/strong> intend to highlight two relevant and still little known aspects, the knowledge of which we believe can help young people, in the context of their current studies and when it will be necessary to choose the training path to access the world of work. Two topics that the world of professional training must also be increasingly aware of.<\/p>\n

The phenomenon of the Geospatial Revolution requires leverage on humanistic culture<\/em>, vast heritage of our national community, bearing in mind the recommendation of the Manifesto of a 5.0 Company<\/strong> presented by Geoknowledge Foundation<\/em><\/a>, a document that calls for action to "contribute to the realization of the vision of our future according to a humanistic ideal". The world is changing so rapidly that the need is felt for a philosophical-humanistic inspiration rather than an engineering one. \u201cThe hyper-technological society does not need technicians, but hybrids<\/a>\u201d, underlines the sociologist prof. Peter Dominici<\/strong>member of our association<\/strong>. He coined the term "hypercomplex society<\/strong><\/a>\u201d, with which he synthetically identifies a society in which, compared to the past, two factors prevail: theEconomy<\/strong> and a historical-social context dominated by Communication. <\/strong>New training programs need to be formulated, as well as education and training initiatives designed for the challenges ofhypercomplexity<\/em> in a \u2013 still unknown \u2013 continuous connection ecosystem, initiatives <\/strong>strongly oriented towards overcoming the separation between knowledge, disciplines, skills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Second aspect, the geospatial sector has very important economic values on a global level and is expected to grow steadily in the coming years. This is partly due to the continuous introduction of products and services based on new technologies on the market, but above all to the role of ICT drivers<\/em> for this sector, which ones cloud<\/em>, IoT<\/em>, Big Data<\/em>, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented\/Virtual Reality, just to name a few and in recognition of new feature of digital geospatial data<\/strong>, recognized as an amplifier of the functional and economic value of any other type of data<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Compared to this global framework, our country, as recently reported in this article<\/a>, is mainly prepared for two aspects: (i) it has a regulatory framework and policy<\/em> appropriate to the context; (ii) it has a geospatial industrial fabric which places Italy in the group of nations\u00a0leader <\/em>of the sector.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, they are insufficient digital skills<\/strong> available geospatials<\/strong>. In this regard, the training capacity expressed by Italy in the geospatial field is lacking, not so much with respect to school and university training courses (Italy is mentioned among the nations that have "strong science and research, and academia courses"), but for a'insufficient supply of training courses closer to the needs of companies and application sectors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This is the gap which the initiative providentially addresses of Genoa<\/strong>: to which our association intends to join and participate to propose to young people - mainly, but not only - digital training\/literacy initiatives relating to the geographical area, which increase and improve\u00a0spatial capabilities<\/strong>, taking advantage of the new features made available by technology. They must be oriented to increase\u00a0is<\/strong>\u00a0the ability to competently and confidently use geographical maps and the ability to create cartographic representations (data-information-knowledge) using the tools that technology makes available,\u00a0is<\/strong>\u00a0the ability to think also in spatial terms when we face situations and problems in everyday life, within society and the world around us.<\/p>\n
